Which cocktail would you mix in Lucifer’s glass?

20130527-213826.jpg
Post a cocktail recipe fit for the Devil himself over at my Facebook page (or in the Comments box below) and you could win Lucifer Glass goodies!

With the release of The Lucifer Glass, my new Samhain Horror novella, just a week away I thought it timely to have a fun contest – and it’s a great time to be drinking horror cocktails. Yesterday we celebrated the Peter Cushing Centenary and today marks Sir Christopher Lee’s 91st birthday, and the anniversary of Vincent Price’s birth. A horror icon triple whammy worthy of a toast…or three!

I once invented a cocktail called ‘The Frazizor’, but it was banned shortly afterwards as authorities deemed it “a risk to public health…and decency”. (Think ‘Pan Galactic Gargleblaster’ nailed to Old Scratch’s cloven hoof then rammed into your brainstem and you’re halfway there.)

But i know you can do better.

So get posting (or Commenting in the box below) your luciferous liquor libations, and make sure they’re 66.6% proof…

Cheers!

The Lamplighters: news digest!

Wow, what a week it’s been for The Lamplighters!

The ebook held the #1 spot in Samhain Publishing’s Horror Bestsellers for 10 days since its release on November 1st.

The first review of The Lamplighters came in and it’s a goody!

I did a guest blog about all things Lamplighters at The Top Shelf, my thanks to Misty Rayburn:
http://www.the-top-shelf.com/?p=2404

Then, my publisher Samhain got in touch and informed me I was “voted a close 2nd to Ramsey Campbell in their favorite horror author election.” I had no idea! Thanks to all the kind readers who voted, and am looking forward to cosying up in my Samhain Horror hoodie while working on my next book 🙂

"*model not included" dammit. she looks like she could keep a feller cosy!

And hey, if you’d like to win a Samhain Book Voucher worth $5 to spend on The Lamplighters or any other title, just ‘like’ this Facebook page. Go there now and do it folks. The winner will be drawn at random on November 13th.

Last but not least, a 2-page ad for the Samhain Horror line appeared in HorrorHound #32, go here to see a snapshot in all its glory.

What’s next? Well, the movie novelization of ‘Panic Button‘ (out now on UK DVD/Blu-ray to tons of great reviews) is coming soon, and I am working on book #3 along with new feature film projects. Yup, as the freezing English fog draws in, that hoodie is gonna be very handy!

‘Til next slime, take scare my f(r)iends.

About The Lamplighters:
Life on Meditrine Island is luxurious…but brief.

Marla Neuborn has found the best post-grad job in the world – as a ‘Lamplighter’ working on Meditrine Island, an exclusive idyllic paradise owned and operated by a consortium of billionaires. All Lamplighters have to do is tend to the mansions, cook and clean, and turn on lights to make it appear the owners are home. But the job comes with conditions. Marla will not know the exact location of the island, and she will have no contact with the outside world for the duration of her stay.

Once on the island, Marla quickly learns the billionaire lifestyle is not all it is made out to be. The chief of security rules Meditrine with an iron fist. His private police force patrols the shores night and day, and CCTV cameras watch the Lamplighters relentlessly. Soon Marla will also discover first-hand that the island hides a terrible secret. She’ll meet the resident known as the Skin Mechanic. And she’ll find out why so few Lamplighters ever leave the island alive.

Countdown to The Lamplighters: 7 days

My horror novel ‘The Lamplighters‘ is out a week today on 1st November.

Thanks to all who have been pre-ordering the book it is currently #4 in Samhain Publishing’s Top 10 Horror Bestsellers.

To celebrate I’ve given the old website a bit of an overhaul – hope you like the new look?

Have a browse around and be sure to check out the special Lamplighters page, where you can read an excerpt from the book and find links to pre-order the book in all major ebook formats for your Kindle, Nook or other newfangled e-reader device.

Paperback (or as some are calling them now, ‘Treebooks’ – I love that name) aficionados please note The Lamplighters trade paperback is out on 7th February 2012.

I will be running a Halloween competition to win a freebie so make sure you drop by and ‘Like’ the official Facebook page to be in with a chance of winning!

The Lamplighters is published by Samhain Horror, which launched this month under the supervision of Editor (and genre legend) Don D’Auria with exciting releases from authors both established and new.

A few of the Samhainers (Kristopher Rufty, Jonathan Janz, Ron Malfi, Brian Moreland and Hunter Shea) got together and recorded a radio chat in which they discuss the process of writing, getting published, and what to expect next from them. It’s a fun and informative listen and you can check it out here.

Vote Red Lines!*

Openfilm ‘Get It Made’ Contest

This cool online short film contest (supported by Hollywood star James Caan) will award $250,000 in feature film funding to one lucky winner. The Top 6 films (by user votes) will go to a Judging Panel. Voting ends July 31st 2010.

My entry is supernatural school detention shocker ‘Red Lines’, featuring Hellraiser icon Doug Bradley. The film won Best Short & Director at Fearless Tales Genre Festival USA and gave legendary director Tobe Hooper (and I quote) “the total creeps”. If you’d like the film to have a chance of going feature-length, please vote* for it here:

*Apologies, there’s a brief free signup required to vote. And before I get accused of vote rigging, please note there are tons of other movies to vote for on the Openfilm site 🙂
